Public Affairs & Religious Liberty Ministry

WHAT DOES RELIGIOUS LIBERTY ACCOMPLISH?

The mission of the Public Affairs and Religious Liberty department is to support the Central States Conference by providing updates and resources for individuals facing questions or challenges regarding their religious rights. Established in 1901, the Department of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty (PARL) has been the Seventh-day Adventist Church's voice to governments, religious organizations, and international bodies. Through advocating, safeguarding, and championing religious freedom and human rights globally, PARL represents the church on public matters and upholds Adventist principles of worship and belief. Alongside its role at the General Conference, PARL maintains offices in Washington D.C. for congressional engagement and in New York City for interactions with the United Nations.

What can I do?

Every member of the Seventh-day Adventist Church is called to be an ambassador for Christ and a spokesperson for their church. For this reason, the work of Public Affairs and Religious Liberty is not something that happens only at the General Conference, Divisions, Unions, and Conferences. It's a mission and ministry for every church member. Each one of us, in many different ways, can participate in Public Affairs and Religious Liberty core mandate:

"To position the Seventh-day Adventist Church and its services to a standing of credibility, trust, and relevance in the public realm."
